June 2, 2014 | Daniella & Letisha Jones-EllisHip hop artist, poet and songwriter 2Pac has inspired a Broadway musical!
The timeless music of the artist who infamously lost his life nearly 20 years ago, has led to the non-biographical story highlighting two friends and their struggle to survive in their mid-West neighbourhood.
Titled Holler If Ya Hear Me after one of the rapper’s title tracks, the musical will hit New York’s Palace Theatre on June 19th for its Broadway debut, with preview performances already having taken place at the end of last month.
Although not based on 2Pac’s life, the script still includes his hits such as ‘Me Against The World’, ‘Keep Ya Head Up’, ‘California Love’ and of course ‘Holler If Ya Hear Me’. For those fans that want to see a biopic on an artist who many generations can relate to, this new project can be expected later on in the year.
Cast members include poet Saul Williams as the lead and the musical was written by Todd Kreidler, with direction by Kenny Leon.
