November 19, 2017 | D&LAs Janet Jackson (and her fans) celebrated the 20th anniversary of the release of The Velvet Rope this year – her sixth studio album – it’s safe to say that she is one of the most influential artists to have ever graced the stage.
Yes, she is a well known member of the famous Jackson family but she is greatly known and loved for building a name for herself away from the success her brothers achieved.
In a time when speaking against your parents wishes, especially when they are your management, Janet – made a huge decision to truly become the artist she wanted to be. That meant breaking all musical ties with her family, to truly represent herself through her solo music.
Now this didn’t mean she wasn’t appreciative of the support she had received up until this point but I’m sure you can all relate, there comes a time in your young adult life when you’re ready to take that confident step into the unknown, break the chains and pursue your own dreams.
….and look at her now! Forever a voice for women in the entertainment world as well as humanitarian work.
We had to set up an appreciation post for one of our favourite artists and entertainers celebrating her big milestone this year.
Now here’s to hoping she brings her State Of The World tour to the UK very soon!
Signing out with a couple of our favourite songs (and music videos) from The Velvet Rope, ‘Together Again’ and ‘I Get Lonely’.
