September 19, 2017 | D&LIt has been no secret that Tionne ‘T-Boz’ Watkins from the hugely successful girl group TLC, has been living with sickle cell disease for many years.
Now, she has released her very own book that documents her life on and off the stage; her years with TLC, family life and living with a disease that has left her in the hospital on many occasions throughout her life.
As a young girl, when you’re told that you won’t live to see your 30’s, it’s something that can either bring out the negative or the positive in you, but T-Boz went for the latter and did not let this stop her from pursuing her dreams and living her life.
She is our Artist Of The Week because – without even focusing on her illness – she has achieved worldwide success in the music business and is part of the Grammy winning female generation who paved the way for future girl groups on the map.
But through her illness, she has raised awareness for the immune disorder and helped and supported others who are also living with it.
‘A Sick Life chronicles Tionne’s journey from a sickly young girl from Des Moines who was told she wouldn’t live to see 30 through her teen years in Atlanta, how she broke into the music scene, and became the superstar musician and sickle-cell disease advocate she is today.
‘Through Tionne’s tough, funny, tell-it-like-it-is voice, she shares how she found the inner strength, grit, and determination to live her dream, despite her often unpredictable and debilitating health issues.
‘She dives deep into never-before-told TLC stories, including accounts of her friendship with Lisa “Left-Eye” Lopes and her tragic death. Tionne’s unvarnished discussion of her remarkable life, disease, unending strength, and ability to power through the odds offers a story like no other.’
