February 15, 2013 | Daniella & Letisha Jones-EllisHave you heard? Our issue 12 feature Dean Atta will be performing for the Stephen Lawrence Trust this month.
On February 28th, Dean will be giving audience members live readings of his poetry ahead of his debut book release in March. Celebrating LGBT History month, the doors of the Stephen Lawrence Centre will open for the UK spoken word favourite, in the name of the lesbian, gay, bisexul and transgender members of the community.
Followers of Dean ‘s work will know that he has a close connection with the the late Stephen Lawrence, with his poem ‘I Am Nobody’s Nigger’ being dedicated to the murdered teenager.
Continuing to give a voice to those who don’t have the words to express themselves or perhaps need the support, Dean’s words and ways in which he uses his craft to allow others to be heard and voice social issues is well received and no doubt appreciated by listeners of his literary talent.
Remember you can catch up with Dean and news of his upcoming book release and future gigs in issue 12 of L’ART.
