Fashion Guide: Update Your Summer Style

May 13, 2015 | D&L

Whether you’re spoilt for choice and don’t know where to start, or if you can’t decide on what best complements your own personal style, our Summer fashion guide is here to help.

Who else has been waiting for this cold weather to pass, so that it’s time to wear less layers? It’s certainly been a tease as the stores have been displaying their SS15 items for a few weeks now and trying to grab those sudden bursts of sunshine to have a break from oversized jackets and ankle boots can only last so long.

But as we near the end of May, the weather can only get better, right? So with that said, in hopes of wearing these items very soon, we’ve put together our very own fashion guide, so we can all get Summer ready and inject some new styles and trends into our lives.

If you’re the type of girl who likes to plan ahead, then you’ve probably already been buying your statement pieces for the new season. This is always a smart move for many reasons, especially if you’re not so much a ‘trend-follower’, but like to choose the odd pieces to add to your growing collection.

On the other side of the spectrum is the girl who loves to keep up with the latest trends and explore/incorporate them into her own style to build her growing closet! If this is you then we sense that impulse is your middle name! Impulse buying when a number of stores release their new season ‘must-haves’, or announce their end of season sale, you’re there to wear your new buys straight away, or to keep some hidden for those special occasions!

These are the times to use your ‘passion’ wisely and pick the best items that complement your style and shape, so you’re ready to match them with new items or what you already have. Whichever category you fall into, you will always have one thing in common; being one step ahead.

Now, if you’re at a stage where you want to re-vamp your whole wardrobe, making a plan is key! First of all, don’t throw everything out at the same time, otherwise what will you wear? Start with the items you tend to wear the most – jackets, blazers and trousers are a good shout – and once you have replaced these staple pieces, you can move onto shoes, accessories and jewellery.

Top pieces to look out for are the ever-popular open toe boots. You can get away with wearing these until your feet need a bit of breathing space. They’re also a great pairing with midi skirts for those party nights out.

Fringed pieces are making a huge statement at the moment, with bags, boots, jackets, tops and now sandals! We’re huge fans of this trend, as it instantly adds character to any casual look and cut out shapes, asymmetrical designs and subtle vs chunky designs are also making a strong appearance.

You will also notice that less oversized bags are present on retail shelves and they’re gradually being replaced with medium sized bags.

So with all these tips and styles on offer, we hope our latest style guide has helped you in the right direction for your next fashion find!
