June 17, 2014 | Daniella & Letisha Jones-EllisLegendary hip hop group N.W.A. are set to feature in a new biopic!
Members Arabian Prince, DJ Yella, Dr Dre, Eazy-E, Ice Cube and MC Ren can all be seen on the big screen, as the story of their career in the controversial music genre of Gangsta Rap is screened, with the birth of platinum selling records and solo careers of some members which were to follow coming to light.
Named after their debut album, Straight Outta Compton has began production with producing credits from former members rapper and actor Ice Cube, rapper and music producer Dr Dre & Eazy E’s widow Tomica Woods-Wright.
It is thought that Ice Cube’s own son O’Shea Jackson Jr is set to to portray his father in the biopic, with the casting choice being one Ice Cube was heavily involved in to assure the role was given to ‘the best man for the job’.
Taking a look into the roots of the group, their beginning and their rise to stardom will be the main focus of the biopic, with a want for Dr Dre to make new tracks for the movie’s soundtrack, although this too is yet to be confirmed.
The ‘dramatic story that encompasses hip-hop, dope-dealing, Reaganomics, AIDS, LAPD, rap feuds, FBI, PMRC, the Parental Advisory stickers on the records… all of it,’ is set to be a must watch for hip hop fans nationwide. Watch this space for casting details and upcoming movie dates.
