January 5, 2016 | D<his year’s BAFTA award nominations have been announced and London’s very own John Boyega leads the nominations for the EE Rising Star Award!
Since portraying the role of Finn in the latest Star Wars movie, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, John quickly became the topic of conversation, for reasons varying from his race, to his great achievement as a young actor. The latter definitely trumped the first for us and as soon as The Force Awakens hit movie theatres last month, it was clear to see John fans everywhere, whether new or old, greatly enjoyed his performance and the film alike.
To be recognised by the British Academy of Film and Television is an honour in itself (the awards ceremony takes place on Sunday February 14th at Covent Garden’s Royal Opera House), but at the age of 23, the recognition is certainly humbling to the rising star. ‘Honoured to receive a EE Rising Star Award Nomination,’ he stated, as he shared his thoughts to his thousands of followers on Twitter. ‘Thank you BAFTA and love to all my supporters’, he continued.
Only just recently heard of John Boyega? Well although Star Wars is certainly his first international role, the aspiring actor can be seen in 2011’s Attack The Block, as Moses and television’s 24: Live Another Day to name a few, as well as having experience in theatre roles to date.
Born in Peckham, London to parents of Nigerian descent, John’s journey is just beginning and as the 69th annual award ceremony approaches, you can watch the BAFTA nominations being announced on Friday January 8th ahead of the nominees party and award ceremony next month.
So what’s next for John? Well being a self professed Marvel comic fan, could this statement possibly be hinting at a future movie role? We’ll just have to see…
