March 7, 2016 | D&LIn the world of music, samples are going to be used by various artists and those same artists are going to produce their own remix of a song. This time around, we bring your attention to Lil Mama who has released her very own version of Rihanna’s ‘Work’.
This song already has fans and listeners torn because the track is a lot different to Rihanna’s latest singles and albums. But there is no doubt that the sound of ‘Work’ expresses everything about her background, hometown and personality, and when it comes to the lyrics, it sure does represent her culture.
Now, with Lil Mama on the track, what do you think about it? She certainly brings a new flavour to the mix in the sense of her rapping and the new sound she brings with her singing, but as this isn’t originally her song, it obviously leaves room for people to criticise. So when listening to a remix for the first time, our aim is to go in with no preconceptions and take the song for what it is.
With that in mind, we love the twist that she has brought to the song. She hasn’t tried to imitate Rihanna in any way, she has just stayed true to herself and remained confident with it; even dropping in lyrics to let fans know what she’s been upto: “2016 got a lot of music dropping’/ Tell the promotors we gon’ get the club poppin’/ If it ain’t about the money, then we ain’t talkin'”. The one thing the same is the bar setting – and the dancers – but who doesn’t love the vibes that this setting brings to the song?
What’s your take on the remix?
