March 20, 2014 | Daniella & Letisha Jones-EllisThe Little Mermaid is a very well-known film and fairytale written by Danish author, Hans Christian Andersen and now director Sofia Coppola is ready to make her mark on the popular story.
In 1989 Walt Disney produced the animated musical ‘fantasy film’ and together with Hans Christian’s vision, the characters were brought to life. Now, Sofia has decided that it’s time to direct a live-action version of all those featured in the film.
Previous work of Sofia’s include adult themes such as The Bling Ring and Lost In Translation, but now she faces a new challenge with making a much-loved story her own. But she will be joined by script writer Caroline Thompson (Edward Scissorhands and Corpse Bride) who is just as into this new project as Sofia.
But rumour has it that the two ladies may not completely stick to the original story when it comes to their live adaptation. There have also been talks about the film being ‘a far cry’ from the Disney version, which means that the famous crab Sebastian and Flounder the fish will not make an appearance.
However, the crucial ending may just be what has the audience hooked from beginning to end. You will just have to wait and see how the new story unravels.
