August 28, 2014 | Daniella & Letisha Jones-EllisThe biopic on the late talented comedian, Richard Pryor has just had its first read with Oprah Winfrey and Mike Epps both working with director Lee Daniels to produce this real-life biopic.
The film will focus on Pryor’s upbringing, his personal life and career, as Mike Epps channels the famed comedian through his ups and downs in life and Oprah recently expressed her excitement for working with Lee Daniels once again after they previously crossed paths on The Butler.
Oprah is an Oscar-nominated actress and will be playing Pryor’s grandmother, Marie Carter, who was known to run a brothel in Illinois, which is also where her daughter – Pryor’s mother, Gertrude – had worked as a prostitute.
This will be another challenging role for Oprah where she can find a different side to her character, as Marie Carter was a pretty violent person and as a sole carer for Pryor, she would also beat him at their home.
With the portrayal of Pryor’s early years, all those involved in the biopic – including Pryor’s wife, Jennifer – are working together to make this a Grammy winning production, to match the Grammy winning comedy status that Pryor had earned.
Look out for references to his famous work including Silver Streak and Car Wash.
