Missed out on the BG Records takeover at Oxford’s Ashmolean? Then fear not, as we have footage for you from the big day.
Back in February, the artist’s belonging to the local record label held the RAP event at one of the city’s most historic buildings and along with the Young Women’s Music Project and Artisjustaword organisation, the workshop and performance day saw singers, rappers and spoken word artist’s find lyrical inspiration from the museum’s content.
L’ART TV features Mac T and N-zyme were present on the day, as well as other label mates and the fun, experience gained and learning created on the day was all captured by label founder Zahra Tehrani and Maya Francis for all to enjoy.
‘Performing in the Ashmolean on a busy Saturday reminded me of a flash mob almost, the extrovert leapt out of me, the adrenaline coursed through my veins as I looked each gobsmacked audience member in the eye, my brain ticking over trying to weave the mish-mash of inspiration around me with a thin string of lyrics whilst trying my hardest to stay coherent,’ N-zyme said.
‘The acceptance of the urban poetry by the mystified gawkers is something I will always treasure and remember and take with me the next time I perform. Absolutely Splendifourous, refreshing, like a Cold Tanqueray & Tonic with a slice of lemon on a hot day on the Thames with my toes cooling in the water….yeeeaahh’.
