March 21, 2013 | Daniella & Letisha Jones-Ellisnoop is no stranger to collaborating with his daughter Cori B, but this time round rap star Drake is also on the track.
‘No Guns Allowed’ features a brand new Snoop, as he has made his transformation from Snoop Dogg to Snoop Lion. But although he may be experimenting with his sound, don’t fear as Snoop Dogg isn’t leaving his hip-hop roots too far behind.
He said: “I’m going to always be Snoop Dogg. I can’t throw that person away and get rid of him. To me, the Lion is the growth of Snoop Dogg – me growing into the next phase of my musical career, the next phase of my life.
“But at the same time, I can never get rid of who I am. I’m an East Side Long Beach Rollin 20’s Crip, first and foremost. I’m Snoop Doggy Dogg, then I’m Snoop Dogg, then I’m Snoop Lion. But it’s all the same.”
And he’s certainly sticking to his word – but with a slight twist. This new track is all about spreading a message of non-violence. Produced by Major Lazer and Ariel Rechtshaid was inspired by the recent tragedies in the world and Angela Hunte and Shante Broadus, Snoop’s wife also add their vocals to the song.
“I just felt like I had got to the point in my career and my life where I didn’t need guns in my life because I didn’t project that energy,” said Snoop. “I felt like I was positive and peaceful. At the same time, I kept hearing about all these school shootings and these people getting guns in their hands and not knowing what to do with them and just going on a rampage, so it really touched me and affected me to where I wanted to say something.”
So, here it is… ‘No Guns Allowed’.
