TeeJay Has His Official Debut With ‘Take Off’

November 29, 2013 | Daniella & Letisha Jones-Ellis

Afrobeats artist Teejay has released his first official single!

His debut comes in the form of single ‘Take Off’ produced by Benji Flow and with a close working relationship with his manager and time taken out to perfect his crafts in areas of singing, rapping, producing and engineering, this local, UK artist has the self described work ethic and drive to go far.

Describing his genre and style as afrobeats with an rnb twist, issue one feature Teejay uses his influences from many genres to create a unique sound, whilst still drawing on heavy influences from afrobeats and reggae music.

With his parents’ diverse music listening to thank for his early knowledge, Teejay’s goal is to use his ‘resounding edge over competition’ to his advantage, whilst not forgetting the smooth voice and entertainment factor that fans have credited him for.

“The beat for “Take Off” was actually originally for a different song,” TeeJay started. “A song in which I produced and we were just looking at options for. But as most people who work with BenjiFlow know, he doesn’t make beats “just to be used.” He gives 100% on every one so it only made sense I did a completely new song.

“The inspiration from the concept was actually from “Man Of Steel.” I just watched it and I thought, “Superman is so free. He can ‘Take Off’ anytime and just go to the stars. He has no limit.” That’s how I see my music: limitless, free, inspirational and an exciting journey. “
