February 11, 2013 | Daniella & Letisha Jones-EllisLast night, whilst the BAFTA’s were taking place in the UK, over in the States, the music world were stepping out on LA’s red carpet to attend the 2013 Grammy Awards hosted by LL Cool J.
With nominated artist’s eager to attend the ceremony and discover the evening’s wins list, it was also a night and weekend of celebration, as the pre Grammy party marks the year anniversary of singer and actress Whitney Houston .
Record producer and music executive Clive Davis took the time out to remember his special friend and the woman who he defines as the ‘best Contemporary artist of the time’, as the annual music weekend got under way.
Of course there were award titles for Contemporary music artist’s up for the night and winners of this category included Frank Ocean for the Best Urban Contemporary Album with Channel Orange & his vocals also won him Best Rap Sung Collaboration along with The Dream on Jay-Z & Kanye West’s ‘No Church In The Wild’. The other rnb great of 2012 Miguel also earned himself a Grammy, winning Best rnb Song with ‘Adorn’, which he later went on to perform with Wiz Khalifa.
Best performers of the night also included Frank Ocean , Justin Timberlake & Jay-Z, Rihanna & Damian and Ziggy Marley and LL Cool J with Chuck D!
UK artist Adele won Best Pop Solo Performance of the Year with her single ‘Set Fire to the Rain’ with her vocals and ode to a soulful genre doing well in the States and the Record of the Year went to Gotye, with his anthem ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’.
Other wins included fun. with Best New Artist and Song of the Year ‘We Are Young’, Kelly Clarkson with Best Pop Vocal Album ‘Stronger’, Usher with Best rnb Performance ‘Climax’, Beyonce with Best Traditional rnb Performance ‘Love On Top’, Jay-Z & Kanye West with Best rap Performance ‘Ni**as in Paris’ and Drake with Best Rap Album for Take Care.
