The Most Memorable Super Bowl Performers Of All Time

The Most Memorable Super Bowl Performers Of All Time

February 8, 2016 | D&L

Following Coldplay’s Super Bowl 50 performance (and Beyonce’s incredible set following her video drop for ‘Formation’) at the ultimate Levi’s Stadium, we take a look back at some of the greatest and most memorable Super Bowl performers of all time and ask you, do Coldplay now fit in your top three?

First of all, let’s give credit where credit is due as Coldplay is a British rock band who had the pleasure of being asked to perform at this huge annual championship game! However, there was already some pressure on the guys as people were still talking about last year’s show of Katy Perry and the left shark, proving that there is one thing that each performer at this half-time show must do; make it memorable (whether it was planned or not!).

Now, there have been some incredible musicians host the half-time show (including Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake, U2, Prince, Katy Perry and Missy Elliott, Usher and Bruno Mars), who have all gone to great lengths to make each year bigger and better. So we’ve chosen the top artists (in no particular order) who made a memorable performance and (most of all) who had us gripped from start to finish.

Michael Jackson

The first artist to make the top three is, of course, Michael Jackson. You cannot doubt the insane talent he had and his ability to draw the attention of large crowds. You were always fascinated when he hit that stage with his unique voice, energetic dance moves and a creative atmosphere to match. During his half-time show in 1993, the most memorable part to us was how he got the crowd and children involved in songs ‘We Are The World’ and ‘Heal The World’. The entire crowd of 3,000+ were holding cards and turned them over row by row to reveal pictures drawn by children and then a spectacular image of a blow-up globe appeared on the 50 yard line. That sure was memorable and meaningful.

Another artist who made our top three most memorable is Madonna. Although she can be quite a controversial artist (and this performance sure was controversial), this lady’s talent is sky high, from her days of ‘Material Girl’ to ‘Living For Love’, Madonna sure knows how to put on a show. Whether it be outrageous costumes, crazy stunts or her unique dance moves, these are all the memorable factors that make her who she is. It was also a complete surprise to see Madonna joined by Nicki Minaj, CeeLo Green, M.I.A. and LMFAO. Then the final song – one of our favourites – ‘Like A Prayer’ was the icing on the cake, with a huge choir bringing that good church vibe to the stadium.

Lastly, the final artist to make our top three most memorable is Beyonce. For weeks ahead of her half-time show, rumours were circulating that Destiny’s Child were to re-unite back on stage, and they were right! Once Beyonce had began with her solo material, who can forget Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams being shot up from the stage to join Queen Bey with their top hits and sing their own rendition of ‘Single Ladies’? However, the most memorable part of this performance has got to be the animation and visual effects used on the back-drop screens, plus the live band, and most definitely, the many hot and talented dancers who joined Bey on stage and brought the show to life. With that said, which artists make your top three most memorable?
