August 7, 2014 | Daniella & Letisha Jones-EllisLegendary RnB group Hi-Five are back!
The guys providing the sound of New Jack Swing, who first burst onto the scene in the 90’s return with a new single, ‘It’s Nothing’ which was released last week. This latest release was written by member Billy Covington, along with Brian Adams, with production credits also by Billy, Brian and Sheldon Goode.
“We wanted to give our fans a familiar sound yet more mature but still the signature HI-Five delivery”, said Billy, prior to the single receiving great reviews.
Their first album release came back in 1990 and went on to reach a platinum status with the help of notorious producer Teddy Riley in their company, which included their biggest hit to date ‘I Like The Way (The Kissing Game)’. Top ten and number 1 hits were to then follow in the form of ‘I Just Can’t Handle It’ and ‘I Can’t Wait Another Minute’.
Members Billy, Treston Irby, Marcus Sanders, Shannon Gill and Faruq Evans also went on to feature on the soundtrack to John Singleton’s Boyz n The Hood with ‘Too Young’ and hits ‘She’s Playing Hard To Get’, ‘Quality Time’ and ‘Never Should’ve Let You Go’ (Menace II Society & Sister Act II Soundtrack) were to later follow.
“It has been a long time coming and we are just filled with excitement to reconnect with our loyal fans and meet new ones along the way”, said Treston.
As they continue to work on new music, the group can be seen on popular television series Unsung this week. Here ‘the group shares intimate moments of their music career journey as well as the ups and down of being an artist. During the airing of the episode, the group will engage in a live Twitter conversation with the viewers.’
Hi-Five The EP will be released August 12th via iTunes and digitally elsewhere, but for now here’s your 90s throwback.
