Throwback Thursday: Hip-Hop Royalty Paves The Way For New Show

December 13, 2012 | Daniella & Letisha Jones-Ellis

Have you heard? The son’s of pioneering hip-hop groups N.W.A. and Run-DMC are soon to be in the production stages of a new reality show.

The new show will follow the sons on their journey to ‘make it’ on their own in the music business and life in general, whilst pushing towards being known for more than just a famous rapper’s son.

Curtis Young, Lil Eazy E, Jason Mizell, Waxxie and Droop E will film on location in their chosen house, in the creatively titled Seeds of Hip-Hop. Viewers can follow the offspring of Dr Dre, Eazy E, Jam Master Jay, MC Ren and E-40 on a television network soon to be confirmed.

Run-DMC included Jay, Rev Run and Darryl McDaniels as they represented old skool hip-hop and most famously showed the relationship between music and fashion, with their trend of wearing Adidas sneakers without the laces.

N.W.A. is where hip-hop fans were first introduced to Ice Cube, Dr Dre, DJ Yella, MC Ren and Eazy-E, as their hard hitting lyrics and attitude saw the continued rise of ‘gangsta rap’ in the late 80s and early 90s.

This week we turn to the group’s leading single, with a direct message giving a voice to the unheard ‘boyz in the hood’. The track which has the same name as their debut album was released back in 1988. Here’s ‘Straight Outta Compton’.
