Throwback Thursday: USA For Africa & Miguel

February 21, 2013 | Daniella & Letisha Jones-Ellis

Don’t you love it when a musician or celebrity figure shows their human side on topics challenging the world? We may sometimes forget that although they have their spotlight status, underneath it all they are as normal and can be as sensitive as the rest of us.

A great example of this character and emotion is Miguel , as this week the singer and songwriter released his new visual to the moving single ‘Candles In The Sun’.

As he questions matters of the world on the Kaleidoscope Dream track, such as poverty, religion and issues affecting children, he lets us into his mind as his questions lead us into deep thought ourselves.

“It’s so easy to ignore what’s right in front of us sometimes. I wanted to create a song and visual that addressed my everyday concerns of life as I know it in the world that we live in,” he stated.

Of course he’s not the first of musicians to voice his thoughts on such matters, as this Throwback Thursday with a twist, we go back to 1985 where a group of singers such as Ray Charles, Cyndi Lauper, Stevie Wonder and Tina Turner got together for charity and to raise awareness, for the suffering population of Africa.

With similar thought provoking words and encouragement written by Michael Jackson & Lionel Richie and produced by Quincy Jones & Michael Omartian, ‘We Are The World’ was and still is one of today’s best known and best selling humanitarian singles of today.

Here are USA For Africa and Miguel. What are your favourite world awareness singles?
