Throwback Thursday: Wiley

September 5, 2013 | Daniella & Letisha Jones-Ellis

Tuesday night saw the 2013 MOBO nominations party take place and the night resulted in a total of four nominations for UK MC, producer and songwriter Wiley aka Eskiboy.

The Godfather of Grime is in the running for Best Male Act, Best UK Hip Hop/Grime, Best Album for Ascent and Best Song In Association with PRS for Music with his collaboration ‘Reloaded’ featuring Chip.

On the 19th October, nominees, musicians, celebrities and ticket holders will enter Glasgow’s Hydro for an evening celebrating the accomplishments of music of black origin, as well as commemorating their eighteenth year.

After being heard on pirate radio stations and becoming known for his inclusion and association with groups such as Boy Better Know and Roll Deep, as well as solo acts Kano and JME, over the years Wiley has earned a huge following and today boasts nine studio albums.

For today’s throwback we take you back to 2004 where Wiley’s first studio album Treddin’ On Thin Ice produced hits such as ‘Pies,’, ‘Next Level’ and of course your throwback track ‘Wot Do U Call It ?’. Congrats to Wiley and all nominees and good luck for the big night!

Laura Mvula and Disclosure also share four nominations and you can see all nominees and get voting here on the MOBO site. Will you be attending?
