June 5, 2014 | Daniella & Letisha Jones-EllisHit musical, Wicked, reached a huge milestone this week, as the musical is the tenth longest running show on the West End after cast members have performed to over 5.5 million people over the eight years it has been running. What an achievement!
Now, at this celebratory time, word of a film adaptation of the musical is on heavy rotation, but there is still no word about an official cast or possible release date if this is to go ahead. But this hasn’t stopped Kristin Chenoweth – original broadway cast member of Wicked – from having her input and there are certainly a lot of stars named for the lead roles.
“I would love to see someone like Ariana Grande come in and play Elphaba,” she said. “I think Lea Michele’s a good choice as well. Beth Behrs, she’s on Two Broke Girls, she would be good for Glinda. I think there’s a lot of people who could make it happen.”
She also went on to say: “I’d love to see Anna Kendrick in a Wicked movie. I could see her playing Glinda. Or Elphaba. She’s so incredible she could do both parts. In fact, they should save money and just hire her!”
But the real question is, would she ever consider herself being in the film adaptation herself? She has been a part of the original cast after all. “I wouldn’t say that I’m too old to star in it, but maybe just not as Glinda. Ten years ago we played those roles, so it would be pretty tricky to do that. I’d like to think I could still play Glinda, but I don’t know if Hollywood would see it that way. Get a long lens, get a very long lens!”
